MAUI CANOE CLUB FAQ
(Frequently Asked Questions) Revised 4/2008

What days do you go out to sea with provisional members ?

We go every week day when sea conditions are favorable.

Do you go out Saturdays or Sundays?
We go on those days by special arrangement, usually only with full time members.

What times do you go out? What is the fee?
It is recommended that visitors paddle at 7:30AM or 8:30 AM. The 6:00AM session is usually seasoned paddlers out for exercise. Please come 15 minutes prior to departure. The fee is $10 per person single time. $25 per person for 4 times. Fees are not transferable. Fee will apply to full membership.$125 single, $200 family annual not pro-rated. Each session is a training session - the fee paid is your Provisional Membership dues.

Where do you meet, pay provisional member dues, sign an application and waiver, get instructions and get the use of a paddle (oar)?
We meet at Ka Ono Ulu County Beach Park located at the ocean and the foot of Ka Ono Ulu Street. The beach is marked with a bus stop bench with "Maui Canoe Club" inscribed. The location is between the Whale Sanctuary and the Maui Lu resort. If the beach had an address it would be 650 South Kihei Road. From time to time, we meet at Wailea Beach a County Beach or other County beach located just past the third entrance of the Grand Wailea resort going South. Optional Beach is not in effect ..now.

What if I cannot swim well or not swim at all?
Rethink your plan to go out to sea. No Swim, No go. If you are not a strong swimmer, you may provide and wear a US Coast Guard approved personal flotation device (PFD).

Can a child paddle with us?
Children 16 years and less must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. From 6 years to 12, the child must be wearing a US Coast Guard approved PFD that you provide.

What do I wear?
You will get wet. Wear swim outfit or beach shorts. Use sun screen. UV shirt if you are sensitive. Sun glasses with an attachment. Hat or cap secured.

What are other things I can bring?

Rethink your plan to go out to sea. You may provide and wear a US Coast Guard approved personal flotation device (PFD).

PLEASE NOTE: Full members have first choice right to paddle. You may be requested to wait for the second time slot or another day. If that is not possible, your fee will be returned.

THE CAPTAIN OF YOUR CANOE HAS THE ULITIMATE CHOICE OF WHETHER TO GO OUT OR NOT . THE CAPTAIN MAY NOT LIKE CONDITIONS OR THE STRENGTH OF HIS CREW OR THE COMBINATION OF THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES. THE CAPTAIN COMMANDS THE CANOE CREW - THERE ARE NO DEBATES.
